Thanksgiving

Cheeses:  Manchego (I forgot the specific brand, but I’m sure my roommate will remember), Cowgirl Creamery Mt Tam, and Colston Basset Stilton.

And Mimosas.

Delicious.

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! :)

I actually don’t remember what kind of manchego it was, if it even said :( It was the Whole Foods standard, I think it might just say something generic like “spanish manchego” and the price. Still tasty though!

Can your roommate help me figure out how to pronounce Manchego too? Is it Man-chay-go? I always feel like I am saying it wrong!

There’s never a consensus on how to pronounce foreign words in the US. It’s an issue that causes me a lot of stress in restaurants actually because I don’t want to be the pretentious ass who slips into a crazy accent in the middle of a sentence, but I also don’t want to be the ignorant American dope who orders “Queez-A-DILL-uhs” at the Taco Bell drivethrough… In fact, I was once mocked by a waitress at an upscale Italian restaurant for pronouncing bruschetta the correct way, and then corrected a week later by a different waitress for saying it the ‘American’ way. You really can’t win.

However, manchego is generally pronounced man-chay-go in the US though in Spain they pronounce the “man” more like the “mon” in monterrey.

I totally worry about sounding pretentious when I say bruschetta how it’s supposed to be pronounced! Of course, I do sort of say it with a bit of an accent. I can’t help it! It just comes out!
